Sydney Health Sciences mentors honoured
The mentors, who are part of the student-led Belong@FHS program, were presented with certificates thanking them for their work in helping first-year students in their transition to university. Nine Faculty alumni also took part in a panel discussion whereby current students could ask questions and hear how each forged their career path after graduation.
The consensus among those students that attended was hugely positive with comments stressing the value of the evening, with students commenting that the alumni were inspiring and gave them a taste of the wide range of things they can do after they graduate.I feel like I really have made the right choice picking this degree and am feeling highly motivated to achieve.”
Organized with the help of Belong@FHS, the event was an opportunity to bring together the Faculty of Health Sciences community of past and current students, “to remind our mentors and alumni of that same sense of community and belonging” said First Year Experience Coordinator Dr Melanie Nguyen. “It was also an opportunity for our alumni to reconnect with the faculty, share some of their experiences and build that sense of identity.”
