The regional summit will be held in Kyoto and is aimed at encouraging trans-disciplinary discussion with special emphasis on the social responsibility of medical academia. It will also focus on the challenges in a rapidly aging society, preparedness for and resilience after disasters, and fostering new leadership.
Speakers from Monash University will include Professor Ben Canny, Professor John McNeil, Professor John Zalcberg and Associate Professor Anna Burke.
Their topics will cover health technology assessment, big data in healthcare, and fostering new leadership in medical academia.
Professor Canny said he would be talking about education strategies to develop leaders in medical research and academia.
“A huge challenge facing the health care sector on a global scale is the development of the next generation of leaders to advance knowledge and translate research into practice. At this meeting I will have the opportunity to share innovations we have piloted at Monash and at the same time learn about the most successful interventions elsewhere,” he said.
The summit is being hosted by Kyoto University, with the co-host being Fukushima Medical University.
The World Health Summit Regional Meeting Asia is being held from April 13 – 14 at the Kyoto International Conference Center.
